Letter from our Counselors
Posted 4/3/20

Dear Desert Ridge Community –

Your Desert Ridge Counselors want you to know that we were very sad to receive the news that school will not resume, in person, for the rest of the school year. We love our jobs at Desert Ridge and we miss our kids and parents and colleagues very much. Please know that we (Mrs. Ochoa and Ms. Matteucci) are still available to be resources for the DRMS community. Starting Monday, April 6th, we will have “virtual” office hours from 8am to 3pm, Monday - Friday. If you email us your or your student’s need or concern, and your contact number, we will call you or your student back. We check our email frequently through-out the day. Your patience will be appreciated while we navigate this transition, but we will do our absolute best to call you the same day that you reach out to us. While we are not allowed by the District to do “therapy” per se, we are absolutely available to field your questions, listen to your concerns, support and encourage you, and give you resources when we have them. Should you or your student experience a mental health emergency, please call the New Mexico Crisis and Access line for immediate help. They can be reached at: 855-NMCRISIS or 855-662-7474. This line is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by licensed therapists.

Parents of 8th Graders – Registration for Summer School PE, which was to begin on April 6th, IS ON HOLD until further notice. Priority #1 for the District will be to get our Seniors taken care of first. As soon as we hear about Summer School PE, and whether or not it will be offered, we will let you know immediately.

We miss you all very much and look forward to hearing from you should you want or need to reach out. These are unprecedented times but we WILL get through them together. In the meantime, wash your hands frequently, refrain from touching your face, stay home, be kind to one another, keep a routine (and sense of humor) and STAY SAFE!

Our Best –

Cheryl Ochoa (

Counselor for 6th Grade and 7th Grade A-M

Margaret Matteucci (

Counselor for 8th Grade and 7th Grade N-Z
