Hello Desert Ridge Families,

BEGINNING MONDAY AUGUST 17:

  • Mondays will be an Advisory day schedule; each class period is 30 minutes long. Students will go to every class period on Mondays.  This will be an ideal time for teachers to introduce a new concept, check in on group work, or give an overview of the week.

  • Advisory will occur weekly. Teachers will meet with their advisory students to review relationship skills, self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making and social awareness. This time will also be used to monitor students’ attendance and academic progress.

  • Advisory teachers will be contacting you early next week to schedule a virtual home visit.  These will be short video or phone calls to make sure your student and family are feeling prepared for the transition to online learning.

  • Tuesday through Friday will be alternating block period days; these classes will be 90 minutes long.  Students will attend Periods 1, 3, and 5 on Tuesdays/Thursdays; students will attend Periods 2, 4, and 6 on Wednesdays/Fridays.  These 90-minute blocks will be a mix of synchronous and asynchronous instruction.

  • Instructional delivery will occur both synchronously and asynchronously. Synchronous teaching and learning will mean that teachers are working with students in real time. This will most likely occur through Google Meet. Asynchronous learning will entail students working at their own pace in other online platforms or with other Google tools at the teacher’s direction.

  • There will be 15 minutes between classes to allow for students and teachers to take a break and reset between classes.

  • Teachers will hold office hours at the end of each block day for 15 minutes. Students will be able to check in with any teacher during this time.

We know there are questions regarding attendance, grades and overall expectations. We are committed to engaging our students at the highest level and you can expect the following:

  • Attendance is mandatory for all classes

  • Classes begin each day at 9:15 AM

  • Counselors will be your student’s best advocate for extenuating circumstances

  • Timelines, deadlines, and grades will be given

Accessing Your Schedule

Desert Ridge will release student schedules via StudentVUE on August 7th at 12:00 noon.  Once logged in, you can simply click on the Class Schedule tab to view your 2020-2021 schedule.

Advisory teachers will be sending Google Classroom invites directly to their students early next week to join their advisory class.  One of the primary goals on August 12th (first day of school) will be helping students to join all of their other classes.  Additional directions and join codes for all Google Classrooms will be posted on our DRMS website by the middle of next week.

How To Access StudentVue

There are two ways to access StudentVUE. The first is through a web browser and the second is by downloading the app onto your mobile device. On this website, you will see links to login and an icon that links to an account creation guide if you have not ever set up your StudentVUE account. Keep in mind that the password you use for this system will be the password you use to login to your APS Google account which is used to access Google Classroom, Google Meet, and login to all APS computers.

Resetting Your Password

If you need to reset your password, you can go to the APS Password Reset page.

Schedule Corrections

If there is an error on your schedule, you can email your student’s counselor directly. Please remember, we do not do schedule changes, only schedule corrections (incorrect math course, wrong music level, course corrections to meet IEP needs, etc).  These changes will primarily be for content course corrections, not elective request changes.

We will share the details of all other important dates as they near, and we will post the schedule to the school website very soon!

Thank you,

Leslie Saucedo
